Social media is rapidly becoming a larger part of students’ everyday life, not just for leisure and social interaction but also as part of our working lives. Whilst social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn are great communications tool for connecting people, sharing information and developing communities;  there are also risks. Social media allow individuals to communicate with a potentially huge audience, and sometimes its informality can encourage us to be less cautious than we would be using other more traditional methods of communicating and interacting.
That’s why Marshall eLearning in partnership with Christchurch College Canterbury University have developed a course that will:

  • Give students the confidence and tools to use social media effectively by being more aware of both its positive and negative impacts.
  • Teach students the legal, security, reputational and employability risks associated with using social media.
  • Promote the positive aspects of social media to engage and network. Link to employability and getting yourself noticed for all the right reasons.
  • Promote key things to be aware of when using social media, highlighting the legal aspects -Security, Privacy, Data Protection
  • Highlight the potential negative impact of negative online interactions
  • Identify the dos and don’ts – social media etiquettes
  • Hints and tips on using key social media site – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube, Instagram and Snapchat  - setting privacy, getting the most out of them, things to think about.
